The Amazing Itaru Kanno

Anyway, for those of you who read this and haven't got a clue what the purpose of my trip is, let me brief you: The first time I was in Japan back in 1996 I met with incredible, genius guitar designer Itaru Kanno from Caparison Guitars. Itaru had me trying a couple of their guitars and I fell in love with instruments from the moment I swept my first arpeggio. Itaru and I kept in contact and one day he suggested we should put an IA-signature model together. I didn't really do any heavy protesting... The Apple Horn was born! (Hey, that's a rhyme!).

The guys and gals at Caparison Guitars (or Kyowa Shokai as the main company is called) have made me very proud, time after time, over the years. They were true believers from the very beginning. (It's kind of the same thing with Laney amps. Been playing them for years and loving every second of it!).

I have no beef promoting stuff that I use every day, stuff that is vital part of your sound. What pisses me off though, are artists telling the kids that this is the equipment to buy, or this is the string to bend, only to have switched to an entirely different rig, guitar, e t c, the following week. All while you just paid your last buck to lay your hands on the Splendid Whatever your favorite artist was using at the time. Blaaahhhh!

So, I am on my way to Japan to present the second signature model at the annual Tokyo Musical Instruments Fair. (Whao! Gee, there were some fat air bumps right now! We are flying over the Bay of Bengal for the moment and I am performing Houdini stunts to prevent the coffee from ending up in my lap).

I will also meet with amplifier legend Lyndon Laney and demonstrate his groovy amps. The superb guitar magazine Young Guitar will film my Freak Guitar Workshop/Apple Horn Presentation (more about that later on). There will also be a bunch of interviews with fine publications like Guitar Magazine, photo sessions, e t c.
